Glenayre selects TeleDNA to offer Multimedia and Short Messaging Service Centers

Glenayre expands its Versera™ Multimedia Messaging (MMS) suite with MMSC and IP-based SMSC and new MMS applications

Atlanta, GA—October 15, 2002—Glenayre Technologies, Inc. today announced an agreement with TeleDNA, a wireless services products development company, to add a Multimedia Messaging Service Center (MMSC) and an IP-based Short Messaging Service Center (IP-SMSC) and new applications to Glenayre’s Versera™ Multimedia Messaging suite. The solution allows service providers to deliver rich, expressive multimedia messages.

Glenayre’s Versera Multimedia Messaging suite is a cost-effective solution that provides a single platform for IP-SMS and MMS. It can generate immediate revenue for service providers supporting SMS capabilities, and seamlessly supports service providers that want to offer both SMS and MMS-based services. Value-added applications supported by the Glenayre Versera Multimedia Messaging suite include:

Multimedia Messaging - subscribers can create, send, receive, save and delete multimedia messages as well as schedule a delivery time or resend a message.
Greeting Cards - subscribers can create, send and receive greeting cards.
Photo Albums - subscribers can create, send, receive, save delete, and display photos.

These applications allow subscribers to create more expressive messages with artistic fonts and graphics, animated images, full color photos and streaming audio and video files. Multimedia subscribers will be able to immediately view and store multimedia messages they receive in their MMS terminals or personal computers. Non-multimedia subscribers will receive an SMS notification directing them to the multimedia message for viewing online.
“Consumers are responding enthusiastically to multimedia messaging because they have more freedom to express themselves through images, music and animation,” said Rolf Madson, senior vice president, products for Glenayre. “Multimedia-based person-to-person communications is expected to be so popular that industry analysts have recently predicted worldwide revenue of $31 billion in the next five years. Glenayre’s agreement with TeleDNA will help service providers address the growing demand for multimedia solutions and fully benefit from this exciting revenue opportunity.”

“Network operators that are quick to deploy multimedia messaging solutions will have a clear edge by distinguishing themselves from their competitors and maximizing subscriber loyalty,” said Praveen Nallapothula, president and chief executive officer for TeleDNA. “TeleDNA together with Glenayre, will offer innovative, practical and ‘fun to use’ multimedia messaging applications for our customers to constantly differentiate and stay ahead of their competition. Working with the right partners is critical to this equation. TeleDNA is excited to join forces with Glenayre, which has nearly forty years of experience in developing and providing communications solutions.”
Glenayre’s Versera Multimedia Messaging suite is built on an open, standards-based architecture with a Linux operating system and supports 3GPP standards to enable rapid deployment of third-party content and applications.
