The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is the global, open specification that allows mobile users to easily access mobile internet services and interact with information instantly. The WAP technology currently provides WAP1.2 and WAP2.0 stacks. The mobile devices are embedded with WAP Clients which allows users the ease of internet access through WAP Gateway. 

The WAP Gateway acts as a bridge between internet world and the mobile world. WAP Gateway is also required to carry Multimedia Messages originated by Mobile devices and submit them to the MMSC.
